SAME DAY URGENT APPOINTMENTS
Please note these important changes to the way appointments will be booked at Medwyn Surgery starting from 12th February 2018.
When you call the surgery with an urgent medical problem the receptionist will offer you a telephone call back and ask for your preferred contact number. Please give the receptionist a brief description of your problem so that the nurse practitioner or doctor can give your problem the right attention.
A doctor or a nurse practitioner will return your call within one hour to discuss your problem. A maximum of two attempts will be made to make contact so please stay by your phone until contact has been made.
There are a number of options as a result of the call back:
Parking at the surgery? Parking in the Pay & Display car park is the responsibility of the patient and if you are kept waiting for an appointment, you will need to ensure that you top up the meter accordingly. Please speak to a receptionist and let them know you've left the surgery to top up your parking. Unfortunately the surgery can no longer provide letters of support for any penalty ticket appeal.
To request a repeat prescription please post or fax (01306 742280) your repeat prescription request slip making sure you tick which items you require. Alternatively, you may write to us stating the names of the medication and quantity needed or else order on line by following the link on this page.
Your prescription will normally be ready for collection at the surgery after 48 hours. If you would like your prescription posted back to you, please enclose a stamp addressed envelope with your request. Please state whether you wish to collect your prescription from the surgery or from one of the pharmacies in Dorking. If you wish us to send your prescription to a local pharmacy, you will need to allow extra time.

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs). The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
From 1 April 2013, the charges are:
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC. The charge for a single prescription item is £8.40, whereas a three month PPC will cost you £29.10 and a 12 month PPC £104.00.
There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS Choices website
We are now able to batch prescribe medication for those patients who are on long term medication. Should you be interested in finding out more about this service, please ask you GP or ask for details at reception.
Please allow 48 hours, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays, for your request to be processed. Any problems please telephone the surgery.
