4.      Medwyn Surgery Update

Presentation from JS attached.

·         Medwyn Surgery update

·         Medwyn Surgery statistics

·         Virtual group

·         NHS app

Discussion around NHS App

·         All PPG members generally happy with the app but recognise some limitations.

·         Good for accessing prescriptions, some prefer the website.

·         Need to improve the use of the app for all patients.

·         Appointments limited through app

Actions

·         PPG and Medwyn to promote the NHS app together – possibly a newsletter which helps patients know how to use it?

JS explained a recent change to our triaging process:

·         Medical same day appointments are triaged by a duty doctor.  The duty doctor manages the duty team and places the right appointments with the most appropriate clinician.  Duty team includes Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Physician Associate, Paramedic, Nurses and GPs.

·         Reception care navigate and signpost appointments to appropriate places e.g. pharmacy first, physio, nurses etc.

Virtual PPG Group

Medwyn is keen to engage views from a wide demographic of patients and so are currently advertising for patients to join the virtual PPG.  We are advertising through posters in the surgery and online.  Members of the PPG will get:

·         Minimum contact from Medwyn once every 6 months for views on practice developments and services – using Microsoft form.

·         Volunteers have been asked for their permission for Medwyn to share their email with PPG Steering Group.

·         Key is to ensure a wide demographic representation for the group.

·         First questionnaire to be about us of NHS App.

Patient Practice Memorandum of Understanding

This was agreed for circulation for the Surgery.  This will be sent to existing members and all new patients who join the surgery.

5.      Government proposals for dedicated GP for Elderly

Discussion about government proposals and concerns that sometimes elderly patients miss out with new technologies.

·         Triage by a GP ensures patients see the right clinicians.

·         Every patient has their own named GP.

·         Medwyn currently have some 15 minute appointments and the numbers are expected to increase but this does impact number of appointments available.
